Saving Money on International Calling

Despite what some people might think, you don’t always need an international calling plan to save money on your international calls, and the new TeleBlend standard residential plan is a prime example.  Not everyone makes international calls every day, so an unlimited international calling plan, although cost effective, doesn’t always make the most sense for every individual.
With the increasing demand for international calling, many home phone service providers have started offering free international credits, and TeleBlend was one of the first companies to recognize the value in doing this.  Depending on how often you make international calls, the free monthly international credit can more than cover your international calling expense, especially if you are calling countries with cheap international rates.   Since TeleBlend just announced they are doubling their free international calling credit, you can stretch your free international calls even further.  Here are a few steps for determining if you will save more money with the international credit or the international calling plan.
  1. Determine if the country you are calling is included in the unlimited calling plan.   If the country you call isn’t included, you are definitely better off with the standard residential calling plan.
If the country you call is included in the international calling plan, follow these steps to see which plan will save you the most money.
  1.  Estimate the average amount of international calls you make each month in minutes.  Use the international lookup tool http://www.teleblend.com/planspricing/international.html to determine the per minute cost of calling the international number(s) you dial most often.
  2. Once the lookup tool returns the international rate(s) to the number(s) you dial, multiply the international calling rate by the average number of minutes you spend making international calls each month.  Example – You spend 250 minutes each month talking to your friend in Germany.  The number you call is a landline number which is also included with the unlimited international calling plan.  The cost per minute to call the landline in Germany is $0.02/minute.  By multiplying $0.02/min by 250 minutes per month, you’ll find out you are only making $5/mo worth of international calls.  The 250 minutes to Germany would be completely covered by the TeleBlend standard residential calling plan so that plan would make the most sense for you.  If you made 750 minutes of international calls to Germany, it would make more sense to be on the unlimited international calling plan.
If you are considering an unlimited international calling plan, it’s best practice to do a little homework to find out which plan saves you the most money.  TeleBlend offers some of the lowest international calling rates in the industry, so for low to medium use customers, the standard residential plan with $10 international credit can often offer the most savings.  All TeleBlend calling plans include unlimited calling to the US and Canada, so in addition to being a great international calling plan, TeleBlend can also replace your current home phone service provider.
